Cold Turkey

OK it got boring.

So I quit a couple weeks ago. It was eating too much time.

That Evony game became repetitive. Feed the troops. Build the city. Chat online with alliance members.

I started with a little town in the woods with a few fields and trouble raising 50 soldiers and got to the point where I had multiple cities with over a half million troops, a fleet of several thousand catapults, wagons to haul the loot, battering rams and the like.

And there it was. I had to log in two or three times a day because the troopies ate a total of two and a half million food units per hour more than the farmland could produce. The only 'safe' things to attack were barbarian cities where the loot was what fed the troops.

And a half mil sounds big, but the big guys had millions of troops. And warfare is all about having more of the good stuff than the enemy.

So- coordinate about 30 to 40 attacks on barbarian cities, and all the other housekeeping was in the end, a mere chore.

But I could see where the endless tinkering would be rewarding to some, and the company of others doing the same stuff would become addictive.

But there was no place in the game for invention, nor random emergencies to resolve.

So it became boring, and I quit while I was a general, ranked Duke. Leader of seven cities and ranked about 800 out of twenty thousand odd players on that server.
